Final Fantasy 1 - Part 12

Adventures of Canoe and Co!

After looking at the world map, there's not much to explore yet. I'm going to check out the forest and cave and see what's what.

Alright northern most small cave (NE of Mount Gulg)... some guy/girl informs me "" Yes, quite. Ah, there's a six headed dragon that "resonates with the eerie howling of wind..." Another optional dungeon to unlock!

Ding! (43) Fighting fishies pays off.

Southern cave leads to the Cavern of Ice! Let's check Mount Gulg first just in case there's a quest to lead me here.

Hmm... Mount Gulg is just a dungeon. Whelp, I'm already here! B1.

P.S. don't walk on the lava.

Err... ignore that. You have to walk on the lava and it really doesn't hurt that much. B2!

I like the enemies here! Horned Devils, Fire Hydras, and... uhh... others... Ding! (44)

Holy chests batman!

B3 and Level up! (45)

That was short... B4

Wait... stairs back up to B3?

Alrighty, B4 again.

Top left has a Flame Shield and Icebrand. That sounds convenient!

B5! Ding! (46)

Woot! Fire Crystal fight! Marilith the flamy snake queen.

Ha, you dead!

Fire Crystal is ours!!

Teleport and then canoe back to Crystal Lake for a little R&R.

It showed I opened up the fire crystal optional dungeon but I'm not sure where that is. Nothing else really opened up so I'll head to the Cavern of Ice! Next time...

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 11

Earthgift Shrine we go.

Alrighty, that statue is out of the way. Let's go through the door and... I'm in the middle of the desert? Da fuq?

Well, let's just go straight left. Oh a single palm tree. That's helpful. Another palm tree.  Another palm tree...  Anoth... it's the same palm tree isn't it.  Okay, let's try straight down.

Sweet a chest! And the stairs down? Earthgift Shrine B2!

And now I'm in a cave with no way back up. Weird.

That was a short level, B3!

Somehow shorter... B4! Err... As in I went down the stairs and now I'm in a purple forest with a dude blocking my way. No really!

Luckily they're just Black Goblins. Pushovers.

Whelp, while looking up a map for B4 I found out THIS IS AN OPTIONAL DUNGEON. Ha. There are four bosses featured from Final Fantasy III and a dungeon like this gets opened every time you collect a crystal. I'll go ahead and fight one and see how I do.

That was a long level but finally B5.

Oh snap it's Cerberus!

I beat him! That was pretty tough. Jesse survived with only 2hp.

Oh, lame, I can't go back and try the others without going through the whole thing. Sure, why not?

Ding! (41)  Okay, I made it back. Lets go with NW this time.

A 2-Headed Dragon!? I've made a huge mistake.

Hmm, he hits hard but I think I got this.

I did got this! Heal, save, back to boss #3.

Almost there... Level up! (42)

Time to fight... the Echidna!

That was a bit tougher, but I made it!

Heal, save, last boss!

Ahriman? never heard of these. Flying eyeball monster.

I am the winrar! Yippeeee!  Whelp, that's all there was to Earthgift Shrine. Four pretty tough bosses. Now what the hell am I suppose to do?

Oh right, Crescent Lake. That one place I went to way too early.

Whoa, 12 old dudes just standing around in a forest. They gave me a canoe tho so that's pretty cool. I'm suppose to go to Mount Gulg to take back the Fire Crystal, hells yeah!

"When all four Crystals shine once more, return here." -old dude, Crescent Lake

Oh man, time to explore with my new canoe! Next time...

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 10

Cavern of Earth B3, here we go.

Made it back to Melmond for a little R&R. Now where was that golem blocking the way?

Sailing around some more. (38) I think I need to look at a map. I don't have the best internal navigation. It's not cheating because I say so.  In fact, I'll look up spoiler-free map...

Oh sweet I found one. It does have the buildings but not names, which is good.

Mokay, I figured out where I am and suppose to go. Yay maps! I fed the golem the Star Ruby. It was probably worth millions of gil.

The Giant's Cave led me out and to the Sage's Cave! Hey it's that Sadda guy.

Turns out the Vampire I killed was just a servant (I'd hope with only two hits to take him out) and the beast corrupting the Earth Crystal is deeper within. He gave me the earth rod to use on that tablet I couldn't get past. Time to trek back!

Cavern of Earth B4, stronger enemies. Ding! (39)

Guys, I found the Earth Crystal!

Time to fight... the Fiend of Earth!!

Thundaga, I choose you!

Woot, earth crystal is mine!

Takes soooo long to get out of here... (40)

Yay! Done with Cavern of Earth! On to Earthgate shrine, next time!

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 9

Time to kick in in the Cavern of the Earth!

Ding! (36)

B2! More bat sprites.

After much wandering around we've arrived at B3.

Ding! (37)

Hello mr vampire!

Seriously? Two hits and he dies?  Ha!

Sweet, a dead end. "A stone slap is set in the floor. An evil force seems to emanate from within."

And...?  Fine I'll ignore it for now and walk my ass back to the entrance. Who the hell needed the Star Ruby anyway? Right, that golem dick likes gems. I'll try him.

Next time...

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 8

That was quite a bit of grinding. Let's get back to exploration/story shall we?

Oh dear god this world wraps around and I have no idea where I'm suppose to go.

Soooo many battles, where the hell am I suppose to dock? Seriously, there's a bunch of shit I can see where to go but nowhere to dock!

Yes! Melmond!  Oh crap, this place looks like trash. Oh lawl, there's a vampire.

"In the cave at the southern tip of the continent lives a man named Sadda. He is a wise man who knows much."  Okay old dude, we'll visit Sadda... later...

Note to self: giants in caves love gems.

Dr. Unne... nope never heard of him.

Whoop, got some level 5 spells including Life, Curaga, Fireaga, and Healara.

Giant's Cave...  "You shall not pass!"  Cute.

Cavern of Earth B1 - sounds like this is where we should be.

Okay, what the hell. Every step I take is another battle (35)

O lord I'm tired.

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 7

Let's blow up some dwarf crap with our nitro powder.

Crazy dwarf man Nerrick made a canal!

Time to explore ye 'ol western lands.

After crossing the canal there's a dangerous looking whirlpool... obviously I have to go into it!

Lifespring Grotto. Huh, there's a random woman here.  Oh, that's a tail. She's a mermaid. Apparently this place exists to allow mermaids and humans to love and live together.

Another creepy shrine evil looking thing. "Fetid water seeps from the statue..."

Time to explore the vast blue pixelated ocean. Following the coast south, around to the east, and then north until it looks like a new land area. Let's check it out.

Nice, this place has some high level monsters, gotta find a town and grind.

Crescent Lake! Dat Inn.

200g seems kinda steep.  Oh look at all the upgrades!  Magic... wait a tick, they're selling lvl 6 spells and I don't even have lvl 5 yet.  Whoops!

Level up! (25) Damn, still no level 6 spells

Ding again! (26) that was fast... and lvl 6 spells!

Damn, each spell is 13k. Gonna grab 2 black and 2 white.

Here are my spells so far.

Time for bed!

Let's grind!

Level up! (27)

Ding! (28) This is goin pretty fast.

Double Ding! (30) Damn this place is awesome for grinding.

This is going to be a pretty boring session... I think I'll add it to the end of the last one.

Lalala don't mind me (34)

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 6

Alright, let's go wake up a prince.

So many doors to unlock...

Now I have to go through my past entries and find where all the doors are.

Got the one in the Elven castle. Let's check out Marsh Cave because there were quite a few down there.

I think I got them all out of Marsh Cave and a Ding! (23)

On a hunch I assumed there was a mystic key door in Western Keep I forgot to jot down. I was right, nice upgrades in there too.

Wandering around trying to find the Dwarf place again was a nightmare, but I dinged! (24)

There are a lot of chests in the dwarven mystic room... Wyrmkiller?!  That just sounds badass

Got the one in the Chaos Shrine and it had Werebuster.  Were stuff be...ware!

Oh snap! I double-checked to make sure there wasn't another room here... there totally was and it has a Rune Blade!

Okay that should be all of them except for the first Castle... onward!

Whooooop! Nitro powder! Gotta hit up dem dwarves... Next time.

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 5

Short on money, high on time... let us grind!

ding!! (19)

Oh yeah, let's go back to the cave.

Went back to that top stairs down... not much down there, going back to the rope ladder and then to B3.

Did I mention this place is filled with bat sprites saying "Kee kee!"

Found a door in the SW of B3 that is bound by the mystic key. Lame.

Ding! (20) Not so lame.

And another mystic key room the east of that...

...and another one east of that.

Oh FFS, a double mystic key room east of that.

I found the crown! I'm going to talk to the elf prince first before going back to Western Keep.

"The witch Matoya can brew any potion you can image." I can imagine quite a bit little elf dude.

"The dwarves live in a cave on the western edge of the Aldean Sea. They're a friendly bunch!" - random elf. Sure, trust a dwarf loving elf...

Oh! So the dark elf king, Astos, is not king of all the elfs, just the dark elfs. He's the one who cursed the elf prince. Lame balls.

Nice, they have a treasure house bound with a mystic key!

The elf prince has been asleep for 5 years, the healer is looking for a medicine that can rouse sleep. Maybe the dwarves have it? Oh wait! That elf mentioned Matoya being able to brew any potion I can image. I image a sleep wakey upy potion. Now, where to find her?

To the Western Keep!

Here you go guy, I got your crown back!

You are going down elf king!

Down in two rounds again... THE BEST!

I obtain the crystal eye. Yay maybe...

Oh! The crystal eye! "Oh a cave up north of Pravoka has some old dude in it missing a crystal ball.  Dude has brooms that sweep the place on their own so you know he's legit."
^^This is why I have this blog. To the old dude!

Err... first dem dwarves.  Mount Duergar, cool cool.

The Smyth can make me a magical sword with adamantite. Noted.

More mystic key doors.

Nerrick needs help getting rid of a giant rock in his way. He needs nitro pouder! (his words not mine)

Level up! (22) I must have missed one in there.

Okay Matoya has her crystal eye back and I have jolt tonic. Hmm... jolt. Perhaps I shall jolt someone awake. Heheheheh.

Done for now!

Amnesia - Part 1

Jeff and I have been playing for quite a while on and off... I have no clue what we're doing. Luckily Jeff remembers the slightest details when it comes to layout.

Not sure how far we are but it feels like we are near the end. I don't really remember what's going on other than we are deep under the house and we just came across a dude missing most his face.

Okay, some random room that means nothing and this is Amnesia so let's stay crouched and sloooowly move around.

Ooops my sanity is ...

Huh, not much here. Where did we come from? Oh, it's the dude with no face, let's go the other way.

Cistern?  Sure let's go through the door.

Okay there he is, just stay crouched and don't look him in the eye holes.

Phew. Okay four way intersection, go right obviously.

This room has a lot of weird drawings. Probably important.

Jeff had to leave so we'll stop here.

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 4

Going to wander around and explore some more with the ship.

I found a hole in the map down south... let's go! Marsh Cave B1. This sounds deep.

Okay, there's a stair case leading down in the top left and a rope ladder down in the bottom. Meh, rope ladder it is. Marsh Cave B2!!

Ding!! (18)

Blast! I found a broadsword and I just bought one from town.

Weird, I don't think they lead to the same place. I've been wandering around and found the way lower but not the way back up other than the ladder.  Gotta heal up and then I'm going back to the other way down. That makes sense in my head.

I found the elf kingdon of, get this, Elfheim! HEAL ME LITTLE ELFS

The prince is in trouble?

Fira and Thundara baby!

"When the time is right the future will be revealed to me. I shall wait here until then." -random elf chick near the armor store.

Gravestone had something interesting on it.

They have level 3 and 4 spells for sale. Whelp, there goes my money. Time to grind! *looks at clock* Next time!

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 3

First off, I added a little grinding to the end of part 2. Not much happened, trust me.

Today we're going to find out what these pirates are doing in Pravoka.

Bikke's Bikkeneers! These guys sound legit.

Battle is over after killing 9 measly pirates.

So I guess there's some elves to the north but the elf prince has fallen into a deep sleep. Oh and there are no docks in the north.

Some old dude fled from Melmond, a town far to the west overrun by monsters. I'll help you! But first I'm going to explore more and make sure there' nothing else on this continent.

Level up! (14)

Oh, might as well make it x3 (16)

Now off to the deep blue oceans in our brand new pirate ship.

Mokay, port to the south or west.  South!

Oops, ding again (17)

I wandered way west and found the ruined Western Keep. The king was tricked by Astos, king of the dark elves. Damn him. If i retrieve his crown from Marsh Cave, the king will be able to restore his castle. Sounds like a job for the WARRIORS OF LIGHT!

Time for bed.

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 2

In which we grind a bunch more and try to find Garland. You know, the ex-knight who stole the princess!  Let's get him!!

Oh yeah, this version has a bestiary. 143 Goblins defeated! *flex*

Grind. Level up! (6)

There's a Chaos Shrine and a cave up north. Chaos Shrine is where we're suppose to go so... Cave!

Earthgift Shrine. Sounds cool.

Oh balls, some old dude is just chillin in here.

Dafuq is this statue thing in the way?

"The putrid stench of decaying earth hangs on the air..." Go home statue, you're drunk.

Okay, grind to level 7 and then to Chaos Shrine!

Ding! (7) Should I buy equipment?  Nah... I'll wait to see what I find at the shrine... #badidea
I did buy Fire and Thunder for Jesse.

Holy poop I have a lot of money from grinding.  LALALABUYALLTHETHINGS

Oooooh, a door in the first floor, top right is bound by a mystic key. *note to self

Errr, and the bottom right as well. This key gets around.

Garland!  He wants to trade the princess for the kingdom.  Totally even trade.

Watch out, he's going to knock us down!

Two rounds and he died. I may have been grinding too much. Nah!

Guys, we saved the princess!

Oh now the king believes we're the Warriors of Light. Psh. Whatever.

Crystal hunters are we.  First crystal is in the north. Everything is in the north!

I uhh... obtain the lute? Also, ding! (8)

So appearantly the lute has been passed down generations and can shatter the gateway of evil. To the cave!

Fastest. Bridge Construction. Ever.

Okay, so that stinky statue is still here. I guess it's not a gateway so I'll leave it for now. Bummer.

Let's check out the Shrine again now that Garland is gone.

Aww... nothing here.  Grind time!

Whooop! (9)

Crossed the bridge and headin East.

Oh no Jesse died! Stupid wolves!

Thank god a town! Pravoka? Oh dear, the first person I speak to says "Please, help us!"

Time for bed!

Hopping on for a quick grind before work.

Grind grind grind! (10)

Oh a cave up north of Pravoka has some old dude in it missing a crystal ball.  Dude has brooms that sweep the place on their own so you know he's legit.

Ding!  x3 (13)

Okay, time for work. Next time, pirates!

Final Fantasy 1 - Part 1

Howdy folks! Today we're going to start our Final Fantasy series with the first one. I've started this game multiple times but never bothered to finish it.  Well it's about time!

Final Fantasy was originally released in Japan for the NES December 18th, 1987. It's been remade quite a few times and the version I'll be playing is the GBA release: Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls which came out in the US November 29th, 2004. Click the link for more info and a list of extras this version of the game came with.

Well, let's get started!

Oh man, this music is great.

Assign each character's name and class... Oh jeez.

Man I kinda like the default combo: Warrior, Thief, White Mage, and Black Mage. I'd be leaving out the Monk and Red Mage tho.  Hmm... If anything I'd swap the Monk for the Thief. Yeah, then I won't feel like I HAVE to steal from every creature ever.

Okay here are my peeps:

The world lies shrouded in darkness!

Oooooh, am I a warrior of light!?

I'm totally a warrior of light.

World map right away!  Gonna level my butt off for no reason before any story happens. Yeah!

First fight and I'm ambushed by 3 Goblins. Balls.

Goblins can't stop no warriors of light!

Oh snap, level up! (2)

"This is Cornelia, the city of dreams." Okay green haired lady.

The King wants to see me? Oh very well.

Oh shut up Chancellor, we're totes the warriors of light.

Rescue your daughter? Hells yeah!

Garland abducted Princess Sarah and has taken her to the Chaos Shrine.  To the north!!

The dancing girl in town knows odd bits of information huh? I wonder how she learned them...

Old dude in the castle said something interesting: "Our ancestors sealed weapons within this treasure house four hundred years ago... They then gave the key to the elf king to hold until the coming of the Warriors of Light." Gotta find that elf king!!

Level up!! (3)

I caved and bought Cure, I wanted to see if I could find it for free.

Level up!! (4)

Grinding machine... Level up!! (5)

Okay, time for supper. Here's my progress:
